HatDrive! PoE+

The HatDrive! PoE+ is an M.2 M-Key PCIe x1 NVMe with support for 2230, 2242 and 2280 drives, coupled with a PoE+ (up to 25W) module that offers the full 5V5A required by the Raspberry Pi 5.
Compatible with Raspberry Pi 5.

Purchase

Packaging contents

- HatDrive! PoE+ Top-mounted board
- 25mm PCIe FPC cable with controlled impedance
- 4 standoffs
- M.2 drive standoff
- PoE Header Extension
- 40-pin GPIO Header Extension
- 10 M2.5 screws

Assembly instructions

  1. Begin by installing the PoE header extension on the Raspberry Pi 5's PoE Header
  2. Attach the 4 metal standoffs to the board using 4 of the M2.5 screws
  3. Install the 40-pin GPIO header on the Raspberry Pi 5
  4. Insert the FPC ribbon cable into the Raspberry Pi 5 (the side marked HOST should go into the Pi 5 end)
  5. Insert the other end of the FPC ribbon cable (marked HAT) into the HatDrive! PoE+, making sure the arrow printed on both the cable and board matches
  6. If using an NVMe drive with either a 2230 or 2242 form-factor, install your drive at this point by pushing it into the M.2 connector on the HAT and lining up the provided M.2 standoff. You should then secure this by using one of the included screws from underneath, up into the spacer
  7. Carefully line up the HatDrive PoE+ with the GPIO header extension and install it by applying steady pressure, ensuring the GPIO pins are straight. Pushing at an angle may lead to damaged/bent pins
  8. Secure the HatDrive PoE+ by using 4 of the remaining M2.5 screws to screw through the top of the Raspberry Pi 5 into the metal standoffs

Note: Do ensure that your GPIO header extension is installed correctly on the Raspberry Pi 5's GPIO headers. If it's not, it may not make sufficient contact and your Pi won't turn on.

Drivers

No drivers are required for NVMe SSDs on the Raspberry Pi 5. We recommend regularly updating the firmware to benefit from constantly improving drive compatibility.
